Workshop, Avadi was established in the year 1979. Madras suburban sections were electrified and BG AC EMU services introduced in Madras - Gummidipundi and Madras - Avadi Sections in the year 1979. Consequent services were extended up to Arakkonam, Sullurupetta, Tambaram, Chengalpattu,Villupuram, Kanchipuram, Nellore, Katpadi, Jolarpettai, Salem and Tirupathi
EMU workshop, Avadi is the first EMU workshop on Indian Railways to obtain ISO 9002 Quality System Certificate for POH and repair of BG AC EMU motor and trailer coaches
An ISO-9001 Workshop: EMU workshop, Avadi has been certified with ISO 9001-2000 by BIS on 25th October 2003 and Inspection activities have also been included in the ISO Quality Management System.
EMU CARSHED AVADI presently having Integrated Management System(IMS) certification comprising ISO 9001:2015 QMS, ISO 14001:2015 EMS & OHSAS 18001:2007 / ISO 45001:2018 OHS valid upto 05/11/2022
