Shri Narendra Modi, Hon'ble Prime Minister of India, today inaugurated 75 redeveloped Amrit Stations across the country through video conferencing, including nine Amrit Stations under Southern Railway. The Prime Minister also dedicated a New line project and flagged off two Train services, benefitting the state of Punjab.  The main function, graced by the Hon'ble Prime Minister, was held at Jalandhar Cantonment Railway Station in Punjab. Shri Gulab Chand Kataria , Hon’ble Governor of Punjab Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, Hon'ble Union Minister for Railways,  Information & Broadcasting and Electronics & Information Technology, Shri Ravneet Singh, Hon’ble Union Minister of State for Railways & Food Processing Industries participated in the event along with other elected representatives and dignitaries.

Inauguration of Nine Redeveloped Amrit Stations in Southern Railway

As part of this nationwide event, the Hon'ble Prime Minister dedicated the following nine redeveloped Amrit Stations under Southern Railway to the Nation o­n 17th July 2026:

1.Chennai Park (Chennai Division)

2.Chinnasalem (Salem Division)

3.Coonoor (Salem Division)

4.Tirur (Palakkad Division)

5.Thalassery (Palakkad Division)

6.Parpanangadi (Palakkad Division)

7.Nilambur Road (Palakkad Division)

8.Chalakudi (Thiruvananthapuram Division)

9.Angamali for Kaladi (Thiruvananthapuram Division)

Ceremonial functions were held at all the above nine stations in the august presence of Hon'ble Members of Parliament, Hon'ble Members of the Legislative Assembly, Members of ZRUCC & DRUCC, other dignitaries and eminent personalities. The central function at Jalandhar Cantonment Railway Station, held under the auspices of the Hon'ble Prime Minister, was live-streamed at all nine stations.

School and college students, Scouts & Guides, railway employees, passengers and members of the general public participated in the event in large numbers.   During the local functions, various cultural performances reflecting the local art forms were organised, and the winners of various competitions held in Railway schools across Southern Railway as part of the Amrit Station celebrations were presented with prizes, merit certificates and mementoes.

1. Chennai Park

Thiru Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, Hon'ble Governor of Tamil Nadu & Kerala and Padma Bhushan Thiru Nalli Kuppusamy Chetti, renowned Textile Industrialist & Philanthropist participated in the inaugural function held at Chennai Park Railway Station.

2. Chinnasalem

Shri D. Malaiyarasan, Hon’ble Member of Parliament and Shri Rakesh, Hon’ble MLA participated in the inaugural function held at Chinnasalem Railway Station.

3. Coonoor

Shri M. Raju,  Hon’ble MLA , Shri M. Dravida Mani, Hon’ble MLA and Shri M. Bhojarajan, Hon’ble MLA participated in the inaugural function held at Coonoor Railway Station.

4. Tirur

Dr. M.P. Abdussamad Samadani, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Shri Kurukkoli Moideen, Hon’ble MLA and Shri Ibrahim Haji, Hon’ble  Municipal Chairperson, Tirur participated in the inaugural function held at Tirur Railway Station.

5. Thalassery

Shri Shafi Parambil, Hon’ble Member of Parliament,  Shri C. Sadanandan Master, Hon’ble Member of Parliament and Shri Karayi Rajan, Hon’ble MLA and Shri Karayi  Chandrasekharan, Hon’ble Municipal Chairperson participated in the inaugural function held at Thalassery Railway Station.

6. Parpanangadi

Dr. M.P. Abdussamad Samadani, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Shri P.M.A. Sameer, Hon’ble MLA, Ms. Subaida Teacher, Hon’ble Municipal Chairperson, Parpanangadi participated in the inaugural function held at Parpanangadi Railway Station.

7. Nilambur Road

Shri P.V. Abdul Wahab, Hon’ble Member of Parliament and Shri Aryadan Shoukath , Hon’ble MLA, Shri Padmini Gopinath, Hon’ble Municipal Chairperson, Nilambur participated in the inaugural function held at Nilambur Road Railway Station.

8. Chalakudi

Shri Suresh Gopi, Hon'ble Union Minister of State for Petroleum & Natural Gas and Tourism, Smt. Alice Shibu, Hon’ble Municipal Chairperson and participated in the inaugural function held at Chalakudi Railway Station.

9. Angamali for Kaladi

Shri Benny Behanan, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Shri Haris Beeran , Hon’ble Member of Parliament and  Smt. Reena Paul, Hon’ble Municipal Chairperson participated in the inaugural function held at Angamali for Kaladi Railway Station.
