Chennai Division Mechanical Branch is headed by Senior Divisional Mechanical Engineer with the co-ordination of One Sr.CDO/BBQ, Two DME’s(DME/GSN & DME/DSL/TNP) and Five Assistant officers (ADME/HQ, ADME I/BBQ, ADME II/BBQ, ADME(W)/TNPM and ADME/JTJ.

There are Seven C&W depots and One Diesel Loco shed under the control of Sr.DME/MAS. Out of the 7 C&W depots, the following 2 depots are purely dealing with coaching activities.
1. BASIN BRIDGE TRAIN CARE CENTRE – BBQ
2. GOPAL SWAMY NAGAR COACHING DEPOT – GSN
The following 2 depots are dealing purely with wagon maintenance activities.
1. TONDIARPET MARSHALLING YARD – TNPM
2. CHENNAI PORT TRUST – HOM
And the other following depots are having combined activities of coaching and wagon maintenance.
1. JOLARPETTAI – JTJ
2. ARAKKONAM – AJJ
3. KATPADI – KPD
4. CHENGALPATTU – CGL
5. PATTABIRAM MILITIARY SIDING – PTMS
