Central Workshops, Southern Railway, Goldenrock has been consistently taking various measures to improve the environment. Mass Tree Plantations of various varieties of species of trees/plants is one of the measures.
In this year, Goldenrock shop has been planting a special variety of bamboo by name Beema Bamboo which is a tissue cultured variety of bamboo. This type of bamboo is having various special characteristics. It absorbs more Carbon-dioxide and produces more Oxygen than other plants. A fully grown up plant releases 320 kg of oxygen annually to the atmosphere which is more than the requirement for breathing of one person. Each plant helps in reduction of Green House Gas (GHG) emission to the tune of 440 kg per year. It grows very fast. Beema Bamboo has lot of commercial value as well as environmental benefits.
As a mark of respect to the Late Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, a Mass Tree Plantation of 2021 nos. of Beema Bamboo sapling was organised in Goldenrock Workshop on his birth anniversary today on 25th December, 2021. Accordingly the garden was named as "MMXXI ATAL PRANA GARDEN" in which MMXXI signifies the year 2021 in Roman letters with 2021 number of Beema bamboo trees planted, ATAL after his name and PRANA is to signify the contribution of plants for oxygen generation. Goldenrock workshop has planted 2991 Beema Bamboo in this year totaling to 3191 so far.
Officers, Supervisors & Staff of the workshop participated in the noble cause. Many children of employees also took part in the event who were made aware of the benefit of this plant
