General Manager, Southern Railway Conducts Annual Inspection at Golden Rock Workshop (GOC) Tiruchchirappalli

Shri John Thomas, General Manager, Southern Railway inspected Central Workshops,  Goldenrock Workshop   today   o­n   25.08.2021,   along   with  Shri S. Srinivas, Principal Chief Mechanical Engineer, Southern Railway and other Principal Heads of Departments. Shri Shyamadhar Ram,  Chief Workshop Manager, Golden Rock accompanied the General Manager along with his team of officials.

Golden Rock workshop created yet another history by manufacturing the first ever Coal fired X Class Steam Locomotive in the country for the prestigious UNESCO accorded World Heritage Site viz., Nilgiri Mountain Railway. In addition to this steam engine, Shri John Thomas, General Manager, Southern Railway flagged off the 444thPSU loco overhauled from Diesel POH Shop, 200th Guard Van (BVCM) manufactured from Wagon Production shops and 123rd LHB coach overhauled from this workshop.

During the course of inspection, several new projects were commissioned which include Heritage square which is renovated and now housing o­ne NG coach released from Gujarat along with o­ne old MG Steam loco. The trainees and staff are encouraged to use released unwanted scrap items for developing various models. A sculpture park consisting of several theamatic models developed out of scrap was also opened. As part of AZADI KA AMRIT Celebrations of Govt of India to mark platinum Jubilee year celebrations of Indian Independence, newly developed MIYAWAKI garden inside the workshops consisting of 4000 saplings inclusive of 500 saplings of Bheema Bamboos planted by every employee working in the workshop was dedicated to the nation by the GeneralManager.

During the process of inspection, supervisors and staff demonstrated their technical prowess, expertise several process and product improvements made inside the workshop.

IOT (Internet of things) based condition monitoring system installed in o­ne 3 tier AC Coach now running in Trichy – Howrah Express rake and also in a LHB Power car were demonstrated to the visiting dignitaries. Newly developed Epoxy flooring in doorways and gang ways of ICF coaches, introduction of standard patches in the longer lower berths in ICF Sleeper coaches, introduction of PVC coated GI Sheet panel in NMR coach were exhibited. Anticipating huge demand arising due to mass two wheeler production in the state, the team of officers and supervisors in GOC shops have modified o­ne NMG coach to accommodate two wheelers in both the decks.  For increasing the productivity and improving the quality of workmanship several gadgets and tools were made in house which includes Universal manipulator for welding of all types of wagon underframes, Scissor Lifts and Rotory Jig fixture for drilling holes in the wagon centre sills. These were alsoshowcased.

Newly established Main Receiving Station inside the Power House, Herbal garden were also inaugurated. Among mother of all inaugurations is the opening of Family Tree which is at the centre of the workshop were photographs of all the 4000 odd employees are displayed. Shri John Thomas, General Manager, Southern Railway addressed all the Officers of Central Workshop at the conclusion of the Annual inspection and commended the efforts taken by all of them in the last two years amidst Covid pandemic.
