150th New Modified Goods (NMG) Coach by GOC Workshop
Central Workshops, Golden Rock, Southern Railway is vested with the responsibility of converting ICF BG coaches into New Modified Goods (NMG) since 2009. NMGs are extensively used for transporting newly manufactured cars from the factories to various distributors across the country. These NMG have huge potential for revenue earnings to Railways and transportation of Automobiles have increased in Indian Railways. Walajabad has become the Auto hub of Southern Railway.
Salient Features of NMG conversion include the following:
Ø Perforated type floor (Similar to BCACM/BCACBM wagons) is provided to facilitate lashing of wheels of the vehicles.
Ø Ceiling of the coaches is repaired, fully covered and painted so that no rust/corroded material drops down on cars.
Ø Painting is done as per new colour scheme of Apricot yellow – blood red.
Ø The conversion cost is around Rs.8.37 Lakhs per coach.
From April 2017 to October 2020, GOC Workshops have converted 140 ICF BG coaches into NMG for transportation of automobiles. This rake of 10 NMG coaches marks the completion of 150 NMG coaches from GOC Workshops. As on date 40 coaches have been successfully completed in this financial year, itself.
The 150th NMG coach was flagged off today 30.11.2020 in the presence of
Shri. Shyamadhar Ram, Chief Workshop Manager, Golden Rock along with all Officers, supervisors and staff of Golden Rock workshops.
