35th Raising Day of RPF

The Railway Protection Force (RPF) celebrates its 35th Raising Day tomorrow, o­n 20th September 2020.  On this day, in the year 1985, RPF was conferred with the status of an Armed Force of the Union through an Act of amendment of the RPF Act (1957). Due to the Corona Pandemic, this year in Southern Railway the Raising Day is celebrated by holding Quiz Competitions, Suraksha Sammelans and Tree Plantations.

Some of the notable achievements of the Railway Protection Force, Southern Railway during 2019-2020 are listed :-

The precious lives of 17 Passengers were miraculously saved by RPF Personnel in the nick of time at various stations/platforms in Southern Railway. Most of these passengers had slipped from the running train or from the platform o­n to the tracks and were saved by the split second response of Alert RPF Staff. 2659 Runaway/Destitute children found in trains/stations were rescued and rehabilitated through NGOs to their parents/homes.

With the arrest of 755 persons booked under 556 registered cases under the provisions of the Railway Protection(UP) Act for committing theft of Railway materials, stolen property worth Rs.36,47,684/- was recovered. 592 touts involved in unauthorized purchase/sale of Railway tickets were arrested and tickets worth Rs.1,81,26,283/- were seized. 493 accused persons involved in theft of Passenger belongings were arrested and handed over to GRP.Contraband goods, viz., Ganja, Tobacco, etc worth Rs.7,51,26, 398/- were seized in 360 instances and Gold, Silver, Hawala Cash amounting to Rs.11,83,75,971/- were recovered in 32 instances with the arrest of 38 persons.

In keeping with the Swachch Bharath initiatives, 72129 persons were charged for littering at the stations and a fine amount of Rs.1,62,14,400/- was realized. In other offences, 110811 cases were registered and Rs.3,60,72,685/- was realized as fine from 114376 offenders.

During the Corona Pandemic, various units of RPF indigenously manufactured 50,500 Nos of Masks500 Litres of hand sanitizers6910 bottles of hand sanitizer, 2710 pairs of cotton gloves and 2781 hand gloves. Apart from this RPF procured and distributed 493 face shields and 603 full body PPEs to the RPF Staff. Further, during the lockdown, RPF personnel helped IRCTC to distribute 1,63,882 food packets to the needy and through voluntary contribution, RPF Personnel donated 3041 food packets. In order to contain the spread of Corona Virus, the RPF in a Novel endeavour, through their Personnel,  made 115 Nos of portable electrical sensor based Wash Basins using Scrap Railway Materials. These wash basins were installed in various RPF posts/barracks. Post Covid-19 Lockdown, 1512 RPF Personnel were deployed for escorting 637 Cargo Express Trains to prevent theft and ensure proper transportation. Also, 4616 RPF Personnel were deployed for escorting of 506 Shramik Special trains that carried 708057 migrant guest workers.

In a noble gesture, 38 RPF personnel who recovered from Covid-19 virus infection, donated their blood for Plasma therapy for quick recuperation of patients suffering from Covid-19.
