The 45th Tourist and Industrial Trade fair at Chennai Island Grounds organised by Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation, which was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu o­n 9th January 2019, features stalls of various Govt departments, public sector undertakings as well as private sector organisations, besides numerous trade stalls offering various products, including handicrafts. With entertainments such as a toy train ride offered by the TTDC, and cultural programmes in the open-air stage every evening, the 70 day Fair attracts lakhs of visitors every year. This year’s theme of the fair is ‘Tourism and the Digital Transformation’.



Southern Railway has been participating in the India Tourist and Industrial Fair being held at Island Grounds, Chennai, for the past several years as this provides an opportunity to showcase the universal appeal of Railways through conventional publicity to promote public awareness.


Attractions such as working and static train models in the Railway Pavilion attract visitors, especially children. This year too, Static models of various Heritage train coach types including wagon models as well as Static and Working models of Steam and Electric Locomotives are the main attractions. Besides various railway related information o­n the display panels, the working of the Bio Toilet is explained to visitors using a real bio toilet model.


Shri R.K.Kulshrestha, General Manager, Southern Railway, accompanied by Smt Mansi Kulshrestha, President, Southern Railway Women’s Welfare Organisation, and Shri A.K.Kathpal, Chief Mechanical Engineer, Southern Railway, visited the Railway Stall o­n 10th January 2019. The General Manager appreciating the efforts of various Workshops and departments involved in the Railway Pavilion, announced cash awards for the staff of Carriage & Wagon Workshop,Perambur(for their running model), Golden Rock Workshop, Tiruchchirappalli (for their working models),Passenger Marketing Wing of Commercial Department (for Rail Partner and UTS o­n Mobile apps) and Basin Bridge Mechanical Wing of Chennai Division (for Bio toilet model)


Since this year’s theme is ‘Tourism and the Digital Transformation’ the Passenger Reservation System of Southern Railway have put up a large LED display screen explaining the various features of the newly introduced Railway App,“THE RAIL PARTNER”and “UTS o­n Mobile” App. Both these apps are very useful to the Rail passenger. Besides providing information o­n both these apps, Southern Railway would also be providing free wi-fi shortly at the stall to download these very useful applications. The visitors to the stall will be guided by Railway staff to download these applications o­n their smart phones.
