Time and again, many a rail mishap were averted and many a precious life were saved by staff who showcased exceptional devotion to duty by their swift action coupled with presence of mind and vigilance. 

Shri. R.K. Kulshrestha, General Manager, Southern Railway loses no time in recognising and rewarding such outstanding personnel. Shri K.B Ranjith Kumar, Shri G.Sajjan , Loco Pilots and Shri. N.C.Rejimon and  Shri. M. Rameshkuram Asst. Loco Pilots won appreciations from the General Manager for their cautious approach in ensuring safe train movement in two different incidents. In recognition of their good work , General Manager presented them cash awards along with merit certification. Shri.Suman, an RPF constable also received a pat from the General Manager for his humanitarian gesture that saved a passenger’s life.  Shri Suman also bagged an award with merit certification.

On 09th November, 2018,  Train No. 56363 Nilambur – Kottayam Passenger was waiting for a signal  clearance at Shoranur station. Shri K.B Ranjith Kumar, Loco Pilot and Shri. N.C.Rejimon Asst. Loco Pilot noticed that the starter signal was  not cleared and the matter was brought to the immediate attention of higher officials thus ensuring timely signal clearance and safe passage of train.

On 01st November, 2018 Train No. 12636 Madurai-Chennai Central Vaigai Express was received o­n loop line of Sholavandan station (Madurai – Dindigul section). The Station master cleared the Starter signal but Loco Pilots observed that there was a glitch in the Advanced signal starter. o­n noticing the ‘DANGER’ aspect of the advanced signal, they immediately stopped the train and informed the officials concerned thereby ensuring safe passage of the train.

On 12th November, 2018 Shri. Suman, an RPF constable o­n duty at Chennai Egmore rushed to save the life of a passenger and swiftly dragged him to safety.  The passenger was attempting to Board Shraddha Sethu Express while he accidentally slipped and fell o­n PF No.5 at Chennai Egmore.
