Southern Railway Diwali Specials fully patronised by passengers

To handle the burgeoning traffic during festive occasions and peak seasons, Southern Railway operates special trains every year. This year too, special trains were run for Pongal, Velankanni, Tamirabharani Pushkaram and Diwali festive seasons.For the o­ncoming X-Mas and Sabarimala seasons, special trains have been announced by Southern Railway.

Southern Railway operated 36 Special trains during Diwali season this year (2018). 20 Suvidha Specials and 16 Special fare Specials were run from Chennai to Southern parts of Tamil Nadu, Coimbatore/Ernakulam areas and Howrah. These Specials received full patronage with 100% occupancy.27080 passengers travelled by these Diwali Special trains this year.Southern Railway registered a revenue of Rs.2.72 crores from these Diwali special trains.

Last year, during the same period 24 specials carried 22108 passengers recording an earning of Rs.1.8 crores.
