Indian Railways is in the forefront of promoting sports. As part of Indian Railways, Southern Railway has an excellent track record of producing outstanding sportspersons,to  name a few.  The sports persons recruited by Southern Railway participate in different sports tournaments and achieve success. Start Sportspersons such as P.T. Usha, M.D. Valsamma, Beenamol, K.Saramma, Joseph Abraham, Preeja Shreedharan, Tintu Luka, R. Chandrasekaran, T. Muthu, B. Adisekar, S. Sathish Kumar, Rafath Habib, Geethu Anna Jose, Anitha, Raja Priyadarshni, Kapil Dev,  T.C. Jothish, Minimol Abraham have all brought laurels to Country in their respective  field in Inter-National Level, Indian Railways and Southern Railway. As o­n date Southern Railway has 4 Padmashree, 29 Arjuna Awardees and 1 Khel Ratna Award winners o­n its rolls.

India was represented at the Commonwealth Games at Gold Coast , Australia (4-15 April) by Southern Railway sports persons, namely, Ms Rajapriyadarshini (Basketball), Ms L.Surya (Athletics) and Shri.S.Satish Kumar (Weightlifting).  Shri.S.Satish Kumar won the Gold in 77 Kg Category for the second year in succession.

At the Asian Games in Jakarta, Indonesia from 18th August to 2nd September 4 Southern Railway Sportspersons namely Ms Rajapriyadarshini (Basketball), Ms L.Surya (Athletics) , Ms. Minimol Abraham (Volleyball) and Shri.S.Satish Kumar (Weightlifting) represented the country. Our Coaches Ms.P.T.Usha (Athletics) and Shri.C.R.Kumar (Hockey-women) were a part of Team India.

Southern Railway’s star Football Player  Charles AnandRaj is a member of the Indian Railways Football team which has qualified for the  Final round of the USIC(World Railway Games)  Football Championships to be held in 2019. The qualifiers were held at Lalandia,Rodby-Denmark from 20-24 June 2018.

In 2018-19 6 sports persons have been granted Out of turn promotion and 10 sportspersons granted additional incentive increments for their outstanding achievements in sports. In Southern Railway, the sports persons are actively encourages by the Southern Railway Sports Association.

In the recently held 51st  All India Railway CUE sports Championship ( Billards, Snooker, 15 Red & 6 Red Snooker – all come under CUE sports) held at Mumbai recently, the successful Southern Railway team was felicitated by Shri R.K.Kulshrestha, General Manager, Southern Railway.

Organized by Central Railway at Mumbai from 2nd October to 15th October, 2018, various zonal teams from Indian Railway participated in the tournament. In this tournament 8 teams from different zonal railways participated.

The Southern Railway team consisting of Shri Rafath Habib ( A gold medalist of Asian Games) Shri Dilip Kumar, Shri Peter Paul, Shri Girish and Shri  Wasim Ahmed participated in the Championship for Team Event and Individual Championship Category.

Southern Railway won the Gold medal in 6 Red Snooker category defeating Eastern RailwaySouthern Railway also won the Bronze medal in the Billiards Championship defeating Western Railway. Shri Dilip Kumar Won the Silver Medal in Snooker Championship.

General Manager Southern Railway, Shri R.K.Kulshrestha appreciated the performance of the team and felicitated the CUE Sports team. Shri A.K.Kathpal, President SRSA & Principal Chief Mechanical Engineer, and Shri Y.Nagendra Babu, Hony. Secy. SRSA & Chief Commercial Manager, Passenger Services were present o­n the occasion.
