In the ongoing MRTS project between Velachery and St. Thomas Mount, Girder fallen while launching No Injury to anyone nor loss to any property Work taken up after diversion of road traffic

In connection with extension of MRTS railway line from Velachery to St.Thomas Mount, the work of launching of box  girders is in progress between Adambakkam and St.Thomas Mount. At 18.15 hours of 18.1.24 while launching the 40 meter long girder between the elevated  Adambakkam and St.Thomas Mount railway stations (between Pier no.157 and 158), with synchronised hydraulic jacks near Thillai Ganga Nagar, the girder had fallen down on one end of the road while the  other end was  in position. The girder had fallen on one end due to failure of lifting jack on one side . Lowering was done with synchronised hydraulic jacks of  200 ton capacity each

This work has been taken up by duly diverting the road traffic with the permission of State Police. Hence all the required precaution has been put in place before the launch and as a result no persons have been injured nor any damage caused to any property.

Railway administration is taking all out efforts in clearing the fallen girder and the cause of this mishap is due to failure of lifting jack on one end. An enquiry will be ordered into the matter.
