Hon’ble PM flags off ‘Kashi Tamil Sangamam Express’ The new weekly service is the first service from Tamil Nadu’s Kanniyakumari to the sacred city of Kashi

Shri Narendra Modi, Hon’ble Prime Minister of India flagged off Kanniyakumari – Banaras ‘Kashi Tamil Sangamam Express’ today, 17th December 2023. The inaugural special service  from Kanniyakumari (Train. No. 06367) was flagged off  by Hon’ble PM, virtually from Varanasi.  

At Varanasi,  Shri Narendra Modi, Hon’ble Prime Prime Minister inaugurated the second phase of ‘Kashi Tamil Sangamam’ event scheduled to be held from today, 17th December to 31st  December 2023.  Later, Hon’ble PM flagged off the inaugural special of Kanniyakumari - Banaras ‘Kashi Tamil Sangamam Express, the new weekly service introduced  in commemoration of the grand cultural event being organised in Varanasi. Shri Yogi Adityanath, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Shri Dharmenra Pradhan, Hon’ble Union Minister for Education, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, and Dr L. Murugan, Hon’ble Union Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying & Information Technologyparticipated in the function held in Varanasi.

At Kanniyakumari, a grand ceremonial function was held, complete with arrangements for live streaming of Hon’ble PM’s function held in Varanasi today.  Shri N. Thalavai Sundaram, Hon’ble MLA graced the event.

At all the 17 enroute stations in Tamil Nadu, Ceremonial functions are being held according a warm welcome to the Kashi Tamil Sangamam Express’ inaugural special.The events are witnessing the enthusiastic participation of elected representatives, Govt. officials, railway passengers, students and the general public.The enroute stoppages in Tamil Nadu are Nagercoil, Tirunelveli, Virudhunagar, Madurai, Dindigul, Tiruchchirappalli, Thanjavur, Kumbakonam, Mayiladuthurai, Sirkazhi, Chidambaram, Cuddalore Port, Villupuram, Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, Arakkonam and Perambur.

A total of 1094 passengers had booked their journeys by the inaugural special Train No.06367 Kashi Tamil Sangamam Express.

Historic Connection: As the first exclusive regular train service from the southernmost tip of the Indian Peninsula, Kanniyakumari, to the sacred city of Kashi, the Kashi Tamil Sangamam Express establishes a historic rail link between two culturally rich regions.

Pilgrim Convenience: Catering to a large number of pilgrims from Tamil Nadu visiting Kashi, the new train service is poised to provide enhanced connectivity and convenience for pilgrims.

Cultural Bonding:By connecting these distant regions, the service aims to strengthen the shared heritage and deepen the people-to-people bond between the southern and northern parts of India.

Holistic Pilgrimage Route: The train service benefits pilgrims visiting important cities and holy sites such as Varanasi, Allahabad, Banaras, Madurai, Thanjavur, Kumbakonam, Chidambaram, and Kanchipuram, creating a comprehensive pilgrimage route.

Regular service of Kashi Tamil Sangamam Express:

The regular service of No. 16367/16368 Kanniyakumari – Banaras – Kanniyakumari Kashi Weekly Express will commence regular service Ex. Kanniyakumari with effect from 28th December, 2023 (Thursday) and Ex. Banaras with effect from 24th December, 2023 (Sunday).
