Southern Railway bags overall Commercial efficiency Shied & Safety Shield

Nine employees of Southern Railway to be conferred awards for their stellar performance

Awards to be presented at the 68th Railway Week Central function to be held in New Delhi o­n 15th December

A total of 100 outstanding employees of Indian Railways have been selected for the prestigious Ati Vishisht Rail Seva Puraskar – 2023

A total of nine employees of Southern Railway that includes two Officers and seven staffers, have been shortlisted for the prestigious Ati Vishisht Rail Seva Puraskar – 2023.  The highest honour for a railway employee, the Ati Vishisht Rail Seva Puraskar presented at the Railway Minister level, will be conferred upon the awardees o­n 15th December 2023 in New Delhi during the occasion of the 68th Railway Week Central Function.

Further, Southern Railway has been selected as winners of the overall Commercial efficiency and the overall Safety shield jointly with East Coast Railway and North East Frontier Railway respectively.

 Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, Hon’ble Minister of Railways, Communications, Electronics and Information Technology will present the awards to the awardees along with Shri Raosahib Patil Danve and Smt Darshana Jardosh, Hon’ble Ministers of State for Railways.

Annexure -A

The above employees have been shortlisted for the prestigious award in view of their outstanding contribution to safety, innovation and productivity as detailed below:

1.Shri K. Veeraperumal, Track Maintainer, Manamadurai during his o­n duty patrol in Manamadurai, detected a weld failure o­n track and immediately rushed to stop the approaching Train No.16851 Boat Mail Express by alerting the Loco pilots with the Red hand signal.  His devotion to duty, safety consciousness and presence of mind saved the lives of hundreds of passengers while also averting a possible major mishap.

                                                       

2.Shri M.K Sudheesh Kumar, Loco Pilot Passenger, Erode while working Train No.22837 Hatia – ErnakulamJn AC Express o­n 26th October 2022, noticed an elephant standing in the middle of the track in Walayar-Kanjikode section.  He promptly applied emergency brakes, thus saving the precious life of a wild elephant also averting a probable derailment.

3.Shri T. Selva Kumar, Dy.Chief Ticketing Inspector, Southern Railway has done dedicated and exemplary work in detecting cases of fraudulent Aadhar cards which were used for ‘Transfer of Tickets’ and misuse of Senior citizen quota for availing lower berths. During the year 2022-23, he has penalized 13281 cases collecting a penalty of Rs.91.92 lakhs from defaulters.

4.Shri Deshidi Madhusudhan Reddy, RPF Inspector, SRHQ proved his mettle by detecting major crimes under the Railways Act and IPC. He was responsible for detecting 57 Railways Act cases and arresting 117 accused, recovering Railway property worth Rs.8.7 lakhs including 162 meters of copper cable valued Rs.2.08 Cr.  He also seized the commodity of smuggled Gold weighing 10.7 Kgs worth Rs.5.02 Crores with apprehension of 07 persons, Foreign Cigarettes of 46390 packs Valued Rs. 92.78 Lakhs, Ganja 189 Kgs Valued Rs.38.74 Lakhs with arrest of 15 accused. Apart from this, he was also responsible for seizing Unaccounted cash of Rs.1.10 Crores with apprehension of 06 persons and Tobacco products of 112 Kgs.

5.Shri A. Selvaraja, Sr. Section Engineer, Avadi EMU Car shed rendered yeoman service successfully completing the modification of MEMU 3-phase motor coaches no.188438 & 188439 as steam heritage locomotives with state-of-the-art features.

6.Smt. Durgadevi Vijayakumar, Chief Nursing Superintendent, Perambur Railway Hospital  has been diligently working in Intensive Care Unit for the past 26 years and has been of immense support to the Cardiac Surgeons and Cardiologist. Besides she has always been available to assist in an emergency at any time of the day or night. Her contribution towards this work has made thousands of patients with heart ailment go home with a smile.  She did an exemplary work during COVID-19 pandemic period

7.Shri E. Hari Krishnan, IRTS, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Chennai while working as Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Salem made Southern Railway  a pioneer in operation of the theme based Bharat Gaurav Trains.  Due to his intensive marketing efforts to attract participation of private players in the developmentofRailways, the running of the First Bharat Gaurav Train in Indian Railways  became  fruitful  o­n  14.06.2022.

8.Shri S. Mayileri, Sr Divisional Engineer contributed effectively in monitoring timebound completion of Through Turn out renewal which paved the way for increasing the Sectional Speed of Arakkonam- Renigunta Section increased from ll0 kmph to 130kmph Various Track improvement works have been carried out in Arakkonam- Jolarpettai Section for increasing Sectional Speed from 110 kmph to 130 kmph .Under his leadership the emergency Repair work of Bridge No. 299 (Arch bridge) has been carried out o­n war footing.

9.Shri S. Mariappan, AXSTE/ Projects/ MS made an exemplary contribution to execute the works within the targeted time and focusing o­n reliability and operational improvement. Few of the achievements are Installation, Testing and commissioning of Electronic Interlocking & MSDAC at various stations & yards over Chennai Division. Due to the introduction of MSDAC in parallel with DC track circuits, failures are drastically   reduced during rainy seasons and running time, flexibility within the yard improved.
