With focus on “Ease of Doing Business” Southern Railway simplifies the process for approval of packaged products to be sold in Catering stalls in Railway Stations

In a significant move towards fostering a business-friendly environment and enhancing the ease of doing business, Southern Railway has unveiled a pioneering initiative that simplifies the approval process for Proprietary Article Depot (PAD) products and Packaged Drinking Water (PDW) that are sold at its static stalls across railway stations. PAD products are branded packaged edible products like biscuits, chocolates, cakes, and other such items being sold at the static catering stalls in Railway stations. only the products approved by Railway administration and that are part of approved lists can be sold in the catering stalls in the Railway stations.

Traditionally, the approval process for manufacturers and franchisees of these products involved Tender/Expression of Interest (EOI) mode and thus limiting opportunities for inclusion and leading to delay.

Now, in a bid to promote a more accessible and dynamic business environment, manufacturers and franchisees wanting to sell their products in Railway catering units can seek approval on a walk-in basis throughout the year.

Key highlights:

Year-Round Inclusion Procedure: Unlike the previous system that relied on periodic Tenders/EOIs, Southern Railway is now introducing a year-round inclusion procedure on a walk-in basis. This change ensures that interested parties can apply for inclusion at any time throughout the year.

Application Process: To further enhance accessibility, applications for inclusion in the approved list of items for sale can now be downloaded from Southern Railway website. Interested parties can find the necessary application forms and instructions on the official Southern Railway website at www.sr.indianrailways.gov.in. Form duly filled up along with the required documents can be submitted in the office of Chief Commercial Manger/Passenger Services & Catering, Southern Railway, Chennai.

The process of submission of application along with the requirement documents and payment of stipulated fees shall also be enabled online shortly.

Benefits for Traders and Businesses:

This innovative system for approvals is designed to offer business opportunities for manufacturers,  traders and businessmen.

The year-round walk-in inclusion procedure ensures that interested parties can apply at their convenience, eliminating the need to wait for specific tender announcements.

This simplified procedure streamlines the submission of applications for product approval and thus making it easier and convenient for manufacturers and franchisees.

The new system enhances efficiency and transparency, providing a more unambiguous pathway for businesses to have their products approved for sale at Railway stations under the jurisdiction of Southern Railway

This initiative encourages entrepreneurship by lowering barriers to entry, allowing a more diverse range of businesses to participate in providing services at railway stations.

Southern Railway is committed to fostering an environment that supports businesses, encourages innovation, and contributes to the overall growth of the region. The introduction of this streamlined approval scheme for PAD/PDW products is a testament to the railway's dedication to promoting the "Ease of Doing Business."
