Southern Railway’s special initiates to clear extra rush during Deepavali season

A total of 114 special trains are being run to serve the passenger travelling this festive season, out of which 76 Deepavali special train services  are by Southern Railway and 38 other zone specials.

In a first, SR operates Vande Bharat Deepavali Specials between Chennai and Tirunelveli to take the passengers going home for the festival in time and in comfort.

Punctuality of regular and Deepavali Special trains are being closely monitored along with many of the popular trains to ensure that the trains are reaching the destinations on time.

Southern Railway is taking special measures to address the increased demand during the Deepavali season. To accommodate the extra rush and facilitate travel for passengers heading to their hometowns, the railway is operating more than 76 special train services across 12 sectors. These include routes connecting Chennai/Tambaram to Tirunelveli/Nagercoil, Chennai to Coimbatore/Mangaluru, and Kochuveli to SMVT Bengaluru, among others.

In a noteworthy move, Southern Railway has introduced Vande Bharat Deepavali Specials, running between Chennai Egmore and Tirunelveli, providing a convenient option for travelers planning last-minute journeys.

Punctuality of SR Deepavali specials

To ensure timely travel during the Deepavali season, the punctuality of both regular and special trains is being closely monitored. Notably, several Deepavali special trains run yesterday (10.11.2023) , such as  Train No.06061 Tambaram - Nagercoil SF Special, Train No.06064 Tambaram - Mangaluru Jn Deepavali special,  Train No.06001 Chennai Egmore - Tuticorin SF Deepavali special trains, arrived at their destinations on schedule, maintaining 100 percent punctuality.  Besides, the Vande Bharat Deepavali Special services (T.No.06055/06056) between Tirunelveli and Chennai Egmore also maintained punctuality without any delays.

It may be noted that for the convenience of passengers,  Indian Railways is running over 1200 Special Trains across the country for Deepavali and Chhath Festival. Approximately, 26 lakh extra accommodation by way of seats / berths have been created by running festival special trains in  addition to the regular trains during this festive season by Indian Railways.
