Southern Railway observes Vigilance Awareness Week 2023
IITM Director graces Vigilance Awareness Seminar at SRHQ as Chief Guest
Southern Railway is observing Vigilance Awareness Week from 30th October to 5th November, 2023. The objective of the Vigilance Awareness Week is to bring about public awareness, amongst railway employees, rail users and general public through participative and pro-active approach, regarding existence, causes and gravity of and the threat posed by corruption. The theme for Vigilance Awareness Week 2023 is “Say no to corruption; commit to the Nation”.
As a part of the celebrations, a special seminar and presentation was organised at Southern Railway Headquarters office today, 1st November 2023 by the Vigilance department. Prof. V.Kamakoti, Director, IIT/Madras graced the event as Chief Guest. Shri R.N. Singh, General Manager, Shri Kaushal Kishore, Additional General Manager and PHODs of various Railway departments participated. DRMs of all the six Divisions & Chief Workshop Managers of field units participated through Video conferencing.
Shri R.N. Singh, General Manager in his inaugural address stated that observance of Vigilance Awareness Week provides an opportunity to raise awareness of the critical role that vigilance plays in thwarting corruption and establishing moral principles at workplace. Highlighting the significant role played by the Vigilance department, the General Manager mentioned that the use of cutting-edge tools like drone surveys, Google Earth Pro software, staff monitoring via exclusive access to Handheld Terminals (HHT), freight operations information systems (FOIS), and passenger reservation information management enhanced systems (PRIMES), by Southern Railway's vigilance has prevented economic losses amounting to approximately Rs. 10 crores in the current financial year.
Chief Guest Prof. V Kamakoti, Director IIT/Madras delivered a keynote address on Digital transformation. Artificial Intelligence, Big Data and Analytics, Block chain, Cloud Computing, IOT/IIOT/CPS, Robotic Process Automation, Cyber security, 5G Technology, Augmented and Virtual Reality, Digital Twins, and Semi-Conductors are some of the key technologies for this digital transformation, the Chief Guest mentioned urging Govt departments to deploy advanced technology to facilitate effective and efficient functioning.
The Chief Guest commended Railways’ quick Grievance redressal mechanism that are provided through portals such as RAILMADAD, CPGRAMS, RPGRAMS, etc. Technological advancements, in conjunction with preventive checks by Vigilance and suggestions for systemic improvements, have made it possible for the Railway system to function more effectively, he remarked.
Two Handbooks on “FAQ on procurement of Goods” and “Arbitration – Dos’ and Dont’s” were released by Chief Guest and GM/Southern Railway. online quiz and video on PIDPI (Public Interest Disclosure and Protection of Informers) were also launched.
A host of activities are being planned by Southern Railway, both headquarters and Divisions, in connection with the Vigilance awareness week.
