‘Meri Maati Mera Desh’ campaign : Southern Railway runs three Amrit KalashYatra special trains with over 2000 Volunteers onboard
Special arrangements at Thiruvananthapuram, Dr MGR Chennai Central, Chennai Egmore, Ernakulam Jn and other enroute stations for facilitation of Amrit Kalash volunteers
As part of Meri Maati Mera Desh (My soil, my country) campaign, in order to facilitate the volunteers of Amrit KalashYatra, Southern Railway operated a total of three special trains- one from Thiruvananthapuram to New Delhi Saftarjung, one from Tambaram to Delhi Saftarjung and one from Ernakulam to New Delhi Saftarjung as per the request received from Ministry of Culture, GOI.
Thiruvananthapuram to Delhi:
The Special Train No. 06079 commenced its journey from Trivandrum to Delhi Safdarjung. The train departed from Trivandrum Central Railway station at 13.00 hrs on 27.10.2023 with 229 participants carrying Kalash and reached Dr. MGR Central Railway station at 10:20 hrs on 28.10.2023 (today).
A total of 727 participants boarded this special train at Dr.MGR Central Railway station and the train departed at 13:20 hrs towards Delhi Safdarjung. Special arrangements were made at Dr MGR Chennai Central to facilitate the Amrit Kalash volunteers.
Ernakulam to Delhi:
The Special train No.06081 departed from Ernakulam at 10.00 hrs today (28.10.2023) with 190 Amrit Kalash and will reach Delhi Saftarjung on 30.10.2023 via Shoranur, Mangaluru and Vadodara.
Tambaram to Delhi:
The Special train No.06085 departed from Tambaram at 15.00 hrs today (28.10.2023) and upon reaching Chennai Egmore, 566 Amrit Kalash volunteers boarded the special train for their onward journey to Delhi Safdarjung.
Meri Maati Mera Desh Campaign
Meri Maati Mera Desh [My soil, my country] campaign is the culminating event of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations commemorating 75 years of Indian Independence. The campaign is being organised by the Ministry of Culture as a tribute to the soldiers who have made the supreme sacrifice for the country. Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan closely coordinated with Railways in facilitating Amrit Kalash Yatra volunteers.
During this event, a monumental Kalash(urn) , symbolizing the unity and diversity of our country, will be placed for blending the sacred soil collected from every corner of the country and ceremoniously positioned in the AmritVatika (meaning Nectar Garden) at Kartavyapath near the National War Memorial, New Delhi on Special trains christened 'Amrit KalashYatra' are being run from various parts of the country to facilitate the participants carrying sacred soil reach New Delhi. Around 20,000 volunteers with kalash containing the soil in their possession will reach Delhi to participate in events culminating in Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations.
