Trained staff deployed in operation and manning of Vande Bharat Trains 248 trained crew work on Vande Bharat trains running in Southern Railway on rotation basis


The state-of-the-art Vande Bharat train services have been redefining the travel experience of rail passengers across the country.   Three Vande Bharat trains are running in Southern Railway, namely, Dr MGR Chennai Central – Mysuru – Dr MGR Chennai Vande Bharat Express, Dr MGR Chennai Central – Coimbatore – Dr MGR Chennai Vande Bharat Express, Thiruvananthapuram Central – Kasaragod – Thiruvananthapuram Central Vande Bharat Express train services. These premium services are a hit among passengers and are running with good occupancy.  Southern Railway has been providing proper training to the loco pilots, responsible for the safe operations, manning and maintenance of the prestigious Express.

Training imparted to Vande Bharat Express crew

In order to equip Loco Pilots in the operation of Vande Bharat which is capable of running at 160 Kmph and clocks 130 Kmph in sections like Chennai – Arakkonam, a series of intensive training programmes have been conducted as detailed below:

Theoretical and Induction training imparted at lntegral Coach Factory/Chennai Electrical Training Center, Ghaziabad and Zonal Electric Traction Training Center/Avadi

Hands-on training for staff to operate the Vande Bharat trains safely

Southern Railway is presently equipped with 124 sets of trained crew (A total of 248 Loco Pilots & Asst. Loco Pilots) to work o­n Vande Bharat Express o­n rotation basis.

To ensure safer operations, Crew-friendly cab is provided in Vande Bharat.

Wide screen provided for better vision

Ergonomic seats provided for Loco Pilot & Asst. Loco Pilot

Signal exchange larpps provided to exchange signals.

Easy of driving by providing Cruise control to maintain constant speed in loop lines, caution order spots and to maintain maximum speed

Air-condition facility  provided for crew inside cab

Automatic tripping and closing o­n OHE supply in the neutral section by pressing the ENS (Entry neutral section) switch.

Moving space in the cab is more.

Video display provided in front and rear, to view the condition of OHE.

Voice Communication facility provided between Guard and Loco Pilot
