Puducherry station is all set for a complete revamp at a cost of Rs.93 Crores, offering world-class facilities to cater to the increasing number of tourists and passengers. Tender was awarded for the redevelopment work in September, 2022 and the works are progressing at a steady pace. on 6th August 2023, Shri Narendra Modi, Hon’ble Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for redevelopment of Puducherry station under Amrit Bharat Station Scheme.

·New Operation Building column up to lintel level completed.
·TTE Rest Room Pile cap & Grade beam shuttering completed.
·Driver Rest Room Pile cap & Grade beam PCC work completed.
·Parcel Office column up to lintel level completed.
Works Executed So far
·Master Plan Validation completed.
·Preliminary works such as Mapping and Topographical survey, drone survey, DGPS Survey, Traffic survey, tree inventory, joint inventory of movable and immovable assets completed.
·Project management Services have commenced work.
·Right of way, which is a legal right to enter and carry out the work, has been provided to the EPC contractor for construction of New Operation Building, Parcel office, TTE Rest Room, Driver Rest Room, Officer Rest House, Substation, UG Sump.
·Project Management Site Office construction completed.
·Barricading of the site premises had been completed.
·A series of meetings are held with the stakeholders of the project.
Puducherry Railway Station Redevelopment
The work of Redevelopment of Puducherry Railway station was awarded as EPC contract to M/s Engineering Projects (India) Limited, Chennai at a cost of Rs.93 Crores, setting a time frame of 24 months for completion of the project. M/sTUV India Private Limited, Chennai have been tasked with the work of Project Management services (PMS) at a cost of Rs.4.06 Crore.
Two terminals are proposed to be constructed, one at the Beach Side and the other at the Villupuram side. The Terminal Buildings on both side are proposed with world class amenities like a waiting lounge, ticketing area, commercial area and Roof plaza etc. FOB, Air concourse, adequate Lifts and escalators are planned in this building. The Proposed Beach side Terminal building is G+M+1 structure which is fully Air conditioned. The proposed Villupuram side terminal building is G+1 structure. Two FOBs, one each in two terminal buildings along with 36m wide Fully Air Conditioned Air concourse at Beach side Terminal building are being provided for the easy passenger flow.
The redevelopment project aims to address congestion issues and enhance passenger comfort. The station's facade will be enhanced and landscaping will be improved, ensuring that the new design harmoniously blends with the aesthetic charm of Puducherry. Broad driveways and pathways will facilitate easy access, and standardized parking lots will be allocated for two-wheelers, private cars, and taxis. The introduction of feeder buses and e-bus parking facilities will enable seamless connectivity to different parts of the city, promoting the integration of both sides of Puducherry. This spacious and modern concourse will provide a welcoming and comfortable environment for passengers, fostering a positive impression of Puducherry.
