*A Smoke incident in Train no: 12164 ( Dr MGR Chennai Central - Lokmanya Tilak Terminus Express) at Basin Bridge*

*A Smoke incident in Train no: 12164 ( Dr MGR Chennai Central - Lokmanya Tilak Terminus Express) at Basin Bridge*

*It is not a fire incident*

*A Clarification from Southern Railway*

At 18.45 hours of 22-6-2023, an incident of smoke emission was reported at Basin Bridge in Train No.12164 (Dr MGR Chennai Central - Mumbai Lokmanya Tilak Terminus Express) which left Dr MGR Chennai Central at 18.20 hours. This was reported by many media as an incident of fire accident.

It is hereby clarified there was no fire involved in the incident. It was only an incident of smoke emitting from HOG (Head on Generation) coupler due to ingression of water. The smoke emission occurred from HOG connector between locomotive and power car.

As soon as the smoke was noticed the loco pilot immediately stopped the train and smoke was arrested by uncoupling the HOG connector.

The said train commenced its journey at 19.22 hours without any further technical glitches.

Press and media are requested to consider this clarification issued and not to report it as fire incident.

(Note : Head on Generation locomotive is energy efficiency system which draws power from OHE (overhead Equipment) through loco pantograph and caters to the power requirement of the coaches)
