Update on Kanniyakumari Station Redevelopment works

Southern Railway has taken up Kanniyakumari (CAPE) Station redevelopment in order to offer a world-class ambience, futuristic infra and airport-like facilities for passengers. Tender was awarded for the redevelopment work in November 2022 and now the work has begun and progressing at a steady pace.

Works executed Recently

·Master Plan Validation completed.

·Architectural &3D illustrative drawings of Ancillary BuildingsApproved.

·3D illustrative drawings of FOB Approved.

Other work in progress

·GRIHA Registration for Kanyakumari station Re-Development work.

·Project Management Site Office construction is in progress.

·QC laboratory work in progress.

·Shifting of temporary toilet work is in progress.

·Shifting of Goods approach road is in progress.

·Setting up of a Batching plant in progress.

·Architectural & structural Design of the Station Buildings, Ancillary buildings, FOB Concourse is in progress

Works Executed So far

·Preliminary works such as Mapping and Topographical survey,drone survey, tree inventory.

·All kinds of Soil tests (Geotechnical investigation) completed at various locations.

·Project management Services have commenced work.

·Site clearance work completed for all building locations.

Right of way, which is a legal right to enter and carry out the work, has been provided to the EPC contractor for construction of Terminal building North & south wing (Extension) RPF building, Service room for mechanical staff, Rest room for running staff, Substation building , Demolition of Existing concourse roof & Erection of new concourse , shifting of Goods approach road, FOB connecting side platform (PF 1) & Island platform (PF 2,3) ,Platform upgradation works, & Development of 4 lane road connecting MDR 27 & NH 44 (East to West)

·On a regular basis project review meetings are held with the stakeholders of the project.

Kanyakumari Station Redevelopment works

The work of Redevelopment of Kanniyakumari (CAPE) Railway station was awarded as EPC contract to M/s Engineering Projects (India) Ltd, Chennai at a cost of Rs.49.36 Crore, setting a time frame of 19 months for completion of the project. M/sTUV India Pvt Ltd, Mumbai have been tasked with the work of Project Management services (PMS) at a cost of Rs 2.72 Crore.

Two terminals (Arrival & Departure) are proposed to be constructed in the southern side, & North side connecting by Air concourses.  The Terminal Buildings are proposed as a G+1 structures with world class amenities like AC waiting lounge, ticketing area, commercial area, Food court etc. Concourses for segregation of departing and arrival passengers, Foot Over Bridge, adequate lifts and escalators are planned for hassle-free passenger movement. A covered driveway and forecourt is proposed o­n the Eastern side.  The entry and exit roads are planned with drop off, drop-in, pick-up points etc for free movement of vehicles, pedestrians.

For seamless operation of railway offices, it is proposed to build exclusive offices for RPF, Mechanical Staff, Running Staff and Loco Pilots and Substation buildings.
