Southern Railway Women’s Headquarters Organisation celebrated the 30th Sports Day of Ashraya, a school for special children, run by the organisation at Egmore. Mrs. Sonia Singh, President, Southern Railway Women’s Headquarters Organisation, presided over the function and encouraged and appreciated all the 23 special children who participated enthusiastically in various sporting events organised. She also distributed prizes and sweets to the students.
The school cum vocational training centre was started in 1993, with an objective of offering individualized educational programme for special children and to make them independent and self-reliant by emphasizing on self help skills, academics, pre-vocational training like making envelopes, chalks, diyas, bouquets and candles among other things. Physiotherapy sessions are also provided to the students. Activities like yoga , play therapy , arts and crafts also form part of the extra-curricular activities.
