About 200 members belonging to CPI were involved in Rail Roko in some of the stations in the sections of Mayiladuturai – Tiruvarur andThanjavur – Karaikal. This has resulted in disruption of train services in these sections. In the light of this incident, the following official statement is issued:
The Hon’ble Member of Parliament from Nagapattinam Shri M. Selvaraj (LokSabha, Nagapattinam Constituency) has over the years made certain demands with regard to Rail services. A meeting was held between the ADRM Shri S.T.Ramalingam and the Hon’ble MP on 26.11.22. During this meeting two specific demands were made by the Hon’ble MP, the first demand is for reducing the time taken for engine reversal of train No.16615/16616 Coimbatore-Mannargudi-Coimbatore (Chemmozhi Express) at Nidamangalam and the resultant closure of Level crossing gate for longer duration. The second demand of the Hon’ble MP is for stoppage of two trains No. 16187/16188 Ernakulamjn -Karaikal- Ernakulam Express & 16179/16180 Chennai Egmore –Mannargudi –Chennai Egmore Express at Koradachery Railway station.
It has been conveyed to the Hon’ble MP that his demands are being looked intoand the best possible solution arrived at. Also Shri. Manish Agarwal, Divisional Railway Manager, Tiruchchirappalli Division held a talk with the Hon’ble MP Shri M. Selvaraj and requested him for smooth resumption of train services in the affected sections and offered to hold more talks on the pending demands of Hon’ble MP.
Southern Railway is also contemplating taking appropriate legal action against the agitators under The Railways Act, 1989.
