A two-day Philately Exhibition at Southern Railway Headquarters inaugurated in commemoration of India at 75

Southern Railway commemorates 75 years of Indian Independence ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’

A two-day Philately Exhibition at Southern Railway Headquarters inaugurated

Shri B.G.Mallya, General Manager, Southern Railway, inaugurated a 2-day Philately Exhibition as part of “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” at Southern Railway Headquarters today (10th August 2022) in the presence of Shri K.Harikrishnan, Principal Chief Personnel Officer, Shri G.M.Eswara Rao, IG/RPF & Principal Chief Security Commissioner, Shri Ganesh, Divisional Railway Manager, Chennai, Officers and Staff of Southern Railway. The exhibition will remain open for public view o­n 10th and 11th August 2022.

The Philately exhibition, through stamps, first day covers, special covers, picture postcards and other postal stationeries features the growth of development of Indian Railways in the last 75 years along with the display of Freedom struggle and Freedom Fighters.

A total of 505 exhibits have been displayed at the Philately exhibition which include 194 stamps, 93 miniature sheets , 85 First Day Covers and 113 special covers.  The recently unveiled Special postal cover in commemoration of the launch of Centenary Celebrations of Southern Railway Headquarters is also exhibited at the expo.  Commemorative stamps and first day/special postal covers Inauguration of Vaigai Express, Centenary celebrations of Chennai Egmore,  Nilgiri Mountain Railway and other UNESCO Heritage Railway sites, Railway Signals and Future trains were showcased as part of Rail Philately.   

Earlier, a 3-day philately exhibition o­n Indian Freedom Struggle was organized at Southern Railway Headquarters in August 2021.

Southern Railway commemorates Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav

Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav is a campaign consisting of a series of events being organised by the Government of India to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of India’s Independence. The activities of the “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” was inaugurated o­n 12th March, 2021 by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.

Southern Railway also had organized a series of activities commencing from April 2021 o­nwards. As part of this, Southern Railway had recently observed Iconic week of ‘Azadi Ki Rail Gaadi Aur Railway stations’ event at five railway stations associated with Martyrs of Indian Freedom struggle, namely, Tiruvallikkeni MRTS Station (Fiery poet and freedom fighter Mahakavi Bharatiyar) Katpadi Junction (Vellore Sepoy Mutiny of 1806), Tiruppur (Martyr Tiruppur Kumaran), Vanchi Maniyachchi (Martyr Vanjinathan), Nilambur Road (Lion of Kerala, Pazhassi Raja). RPF wing of Southern Railway had organized motorcycle rallies covering many important stations across the zone.
