A pan-India initiative by RPF of Indian Railways, the RPF wing of Southern Railway has embarked on a new operation “SATARK” (Be Careful) from January 2022. Raids are being conducted in trains over Southern Railway to curb illegal transportation of Gold jewellery and other illicit drugs carried through Railways.
As part of this operation on 23.02.2022, Railway Protection Team of Tiruchchirappalli Division conducted a special drive against illegal transportation of contraband items, child rescue and activities of antisocial elements. A special team consisting of Shri R.Vasudevan, Assistant Sub Inspector of Police Force/Nagapattinam, Shri R. Karunakaran, Head Constable/Mayiladuturai, M.Karthikeyan, Constable/Crime Investigation Bureau, & Shri V. Manimaran, Constable/Tiruchchirappalli and Crime Prevention and Detection Squad (CPDS team) /Tiruchchirappalli Division along with Train escort duty officer/staff Shri. S. Muthusamy, Assistant Sub Inspector of Police Force/Tiruvarur, Shri S. Ravi, Head Constable/Tiruvarur & Shri. S. Dhanapalan, Head Constable/Nagapattinam carried out intensive checks between Karaikkal –Tiruchchirappalli in Train No. 16187 Karaikal – Ernakulam Express. During the course of the drive, in Coach No. S 6, they noticed and checked a suspected passenger with two bags containing gold jewels. on enquiry with the passenger, it was found that he did not have any valid records. on arriving at Tiruchchirappalli the suspects along with bags were detained and brought to RPF Post / Tiruchchirappalli. The matter was immediately intimated to State Tax department officials.
A Total of 4.909 kgs of Gold ornaments with improper bill not matching the actual weight & value of gold were seized. The suspects and the seized gold items were handed over to the State Tax/Intelligence Department, Trichy. Further, the tax officials levied a tax amount of Rs.17,28,356.
