Southern Railway on Saturday the 25th September organised the FIT India freedom run 2.0 as part of the Nationwide campaign launched by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS) to commemorate the 75th Independence Day – “Azadi ka Amrit Mahostav”. This is a nationwide movement modelled on the concept of Physical / Virtual run continuing in various formats from 13th August to 2nd October 2021 to encourage fitness all over the country. The concept behind this run is that “It can be run anywhere, any time”.
The Officers, staff, sports personnel from various disciplines assembled at the Perambur Railway stadium early morning. The campaign was inaugurated by Shri Gopinath Mallya, Additional General Manager, Southern Raiway. Speaking on the occasion, he stressed on the importance of daily physical activity and exhorted the participants to make a resolve to include physical activity of at least 30 minutes daily in our lives. He also reiterated the slogan “Fitness ki dose Aadha Ghanta Roz” which was repeated enthusiastically by all. (Half an hour daily - Dose for Fitness)
Welcoming all to the FITness run, Shri. K.Madhusudan, Principal Chief Signal and Telecom Engineer, Southern Railway, and the President, Southern Railway Sports Association (SRSA) encouraged all employees to ensure minimum physical fitness to keep diseases away. Due to Covid restrictions, the run was organised within the grounds.
After the run, the participants were taken to various facilities available in the Perambur grounds. Sportsmen from different disciplines displayed their skills in Boxing ring, Billards, weight lifting and in Gymnasium. Ms. Kanimozhi 100 mtrs hurdles Gold medallist at the recently concluded 60th Nationals Open Athletic championships held in Warangal with a personal best timing of 13.54 seconds also participated in the event along with Shri V.Devarajan, Sports Officer, Southern Railway, and Smt Saramma, Asst Sports Officer,Southern Railway.
Padmashree P.T.Usha the legendary sprinter who is Officer on Special Duty/Sports in Palaghat Division conveyed her best wishes and sent a message supporting the Fitness India Freedom run and advised all the Railway officials to give importance to fitness along with their duties.
