Special Cleanliness Campaign Swachhata Pakhwada gears pace Thematic drives organised all over Southern Railway

In order to achieve higher standards of cleanliness with a vision to bring a fundamental change in the mindset of employees, rail users and general public, Southern Railway has been organising Swachhata Pakhwada-Special Cleanliness campaign every year in line with Indian Railways.

This year, the campaign commenced on 16th September 2021 with Shri John Thomas, General Manager, Southern Railway administering the Cleanliness Pledge to the Officers and Staff of Headquarters.   Divisional Railway Managers of all the six divisions also kickstarted the Special Cleanliness drive at their respective divisions by administering the Swachhata Pledge.  Thenceforth, each day of Swachhata Pakhwada has been associated with a particular theme pertaining to cleanliness.  The concept based drives that were organised from 16th September 2021 are ‘No to single use plastics’, Clean Station, Clean Train, Clean Water, Clean tracks and Cleanliness Dialogue (where eminent persons from various fields conducted webinars to create awareness).

Along with the Officers and Staff of Southern Railway, Scouts & Guides, NGOs, College students and volunteers enthusiastically participated in intensive Cleanliness drives at railway stations, tracks and railway offices. Regular inspections were conducted by railway officials to ensure Clean drinking water supply at stations.  Tree plantation, awareness rallies, Skits, Nukkad Nataks, etc. are also being organised to sensitize rail passengers.

The ongoing Swachhata Pakhwada Cleanliness Campaign will conclude on 2nd October 2021, Gandhi Jayanthi day.

Southern Railway appeals to rail users and general public to cooperate with Railways in maintaining higher standards of cleanliness.
