Vintage Loco EIR-21
The century-old Vintage locomotive EIR-21, that replicates EIR-22 (Fairy Queen), has been overhauled, refurbished, and maintained in excellent working condition by the Perambur Loco Workshop.
The locomotive was originally shipped to India from England in 1855. After withdrawal from service in 1909, this loco was kept as an exhibit at Jamalpur Workshops and Howrah Station for over 101 years. Loco Works, Perambur took the challenge of reviving the presently 170 year old steam loco ‘EXPRESS EIR 21’ in the year 2010. So far, numerous Heritage Runs have been made on this World’s Oldest Working Steam Locomotive.
For the benefit of rail aficionados, locomotive enthusiasts, and children, Southern Railway plans to operate similar heritage special runs of the century-old loco in the near future.
