Hon’ble PM to dedicate Railway Projects worth Rs.1030 Crores for the state of Tamil Nadu
Shri Narendra Modi, Hon’ble Prime Minister of India will inaugurate and dedicate a series of projects for the state of Tamil Nadu on 26th July 2025 in Tuticorin. Along with Railway Electrification and Doubling projects, the projects implemented by the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Ministry of Power and Ministry of Road Transport & Highways will be inaugurated/dedicated to the Nation by Hon’ble Prime Minister benefiting the state of Tamil Nadu.
Hon’ble PM to dedicate rail projects costing Rs.1030 Crores for Tamil Nadu
Hon’ble Prime Minister will dedicate three major railway infrastructure projects in southern Tamil Nadu to strengthen sustainable and efficient connectivity. The Electrification of the 90 km Madurai–Bodinayakkanur line, commissioned at a cost of Rs.99 Crores, will promote eco-friendly transport and support tourism while benefiting regular commuters, farmers, students and small vendors in Madurai and Theni districts. Further, additional Express train services can be introduced in the section boosting speed and reducing travel time for passengers.
Hon’ble Prime Minister will dedicate ₹650 crore doubling of the 21 km Nagercoil Town–Kanniyakumari section, part of the Thiruvananthapuram–Kanniyakumari project. This will strengthen the connectivity in Southern regions of Tamil Nadu. The project has paved the way for operation of additional passenger and freight services and has contributed to improved operational efficiency.
Further, the doubling of the Aralvaymozhi–Nagercoil Junction (12.87 km) and Tirunelveli–Melappalaiyam (3.6 km) sections at a cost of Rs.283 Crores will reduce travel time on major southern routes like Chennai–Kanniyakumari and promote regional economic progress by improving passenger and freight capacity.
Hon’ble Union Ministers, Hon’ble Ministers of the State of Tamil Nadu, Elected representatives, Senior Officials of all the participating ministries will attend the event.
