Thiruvananthapuram Division serves the passengers of southern districts of Kerala and Tamil Nadu and is one of the six administrative divisions of Southern Railway. The division has its jurisdiction from Vallathol Nagar(Thrissur) in Kerala to Melappalayam(Tirunelveli) in Tamil Nadu with an operational route kilometre of 625 Km and 103 railway stations. The division was formed on October 02, 1979, has its headquarters at Thycaud, Thiruvananthapuram.

Shri S.M. Sharma, DRM/TVC, is an officer of the 1991 IRSME batch and has been serving the Indian Railways for more than 30 years. He has experience working in the Bikaner, Lucknow, and Delhi Divisions, Northern Railway HQ, Railway Board, National Academy of Indian Railway (NAIR), Vadodara, and a Railway PSU - DFCCIL. His specializations include railway transportation, rolling stock maintenance & operations, fuel/energy management, training, and technology adoption. He is a keen sports person and has been a selector for the Ranji Trophy, Football, Hockey teams of Railway, as well as Cue ball.
He has also served as a liaison officer for the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra and has presented at various forums and international conferences. He holds a Master of Public Administration degree from the National University of Singapore and has been a CRISP Chevening Scholar at the University of Oxford.
