Track Machines Organisation
As part of Track Modernisation and complete Mechanised maintenance of Track, Southern Railway has been in the forefront in deployment of machines for Track Laying and Maintenance activities. From the modest beginning made in 1975 with the introduction of 3 Universal tie tamping machines and 4 portal cranes, the Track Machine fleet has grown over the past four and half decades with 6 high output Dynamic Tamping Express, 1 high output Express Tamper, 6 High output capacity CSM tamping machines, 10 Duomatic Tamping Machines, 7 Unimat Points & Crossing Tamping Machines, 12 Multi-Purpose Tampers, 12 Ballast cleaning machines, 1 High Output Ballast cleaning machine, 7 Shoulder Ballast Cleaning Machines, 6 Ballast Regulating Machines, 8 Dynamic Track stabilizers, 3 Points & Crossing Laying Machines, 2 Track Relaying Trains, 3 SQRS machines, 15 Utility Track vehicles and 5 Muck Disposal Units, thus totaling to 104 track machines.
The Laying and Maintenance activities are being carried out by these Machines throughout the Zone including the Vande Bharat, Rajdhani, Shatabdhi and high speed/density routes for the safe and comfort ride.
