Mangaluru Junction is getting transformed under Amrit Bharat Station Scheme at a cost of Rs.18.98 Crores Major Upgrades in progress to provide enhanced passenger experience with Modern Amenities and Traditional Charm

Nestled along the pristine coastline of Dakshina Kannada in Karnataka, Mangalore, also known as Mangaluru, serves as a center for commerce, industry, education, healthcare, and entrepreneurship. Significantly, Mangalore's industrial landscape is diverse and thriving, with a strong startup ecosystem.  The city derives its name after the revered deity Mangaladevi, worshipped at the famed Mangaladevi Temple.

Established o­n May 20, 1979, Mangaluru Junction is a transit hub, facilitating the passage of 35 trains daily and accommodating a footfall of more than 6700 passengers per day. The railhead connects various regions such as Kerala to the south, Maharashtra/Goa and the Mangaluru sea port to the north, and Bengaluru-Chennai to the east. Mangaluru Junction also serves as a pivotal point through which all north and south-bound trains traverse.

Scope of redevelopment work

As part of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS), Mangaluru Junction station is undergoing significant renovations to enhance passenger experience and comfort. The planned improvements include:

·Improvements to the Circulating area to facilitate seamless traffic circulation and beautification of the circulating area (6870.20 Sq.m)

·Construction of a new entrance porch spanning 155 sq.m to facilitate hassle-free entry/exit for passengers

·An air-conditioned waiting hall of 176 sq.m for passenger comfort

·Divyangjan toilet facilities covering 11.02 sq.m

·Creation of a 1632.70 sq.m parking area to alleviate congestion

·Provision of a 6m wide foot over bridge covering 307.40 Sq.m for safer passage

·Resurfacing of platforms (3048.33 sq.m) and Platform shelters for passenger convenience

·Provision of modern amenities such as high mast lights, BLDC fans, and mobile charging units is planned to further enhance comfort and convenience for travelers.

·Enhancements to the facade and elevation works

Status of ABSS works

The station's transformation aims to blend modern aesthetics with traditional Kerala architecture, offering a visually appealing ambiance. With 75% of the proposed works already completed, including the installation of new lighting arrangements, the project is progressing as per schedule with a budget of 18.983 crore rupees allocated for its realization.

The redevelopment of Mangaluru Junction is set to provide seamless transit, comfort, and convenience for passengers.
