Shri R.K. Kulshrestha, General Manager, Southern Railway inspected Takkolam – Arakkonam section of Chennai Division today, the 28th of August, 2018. General Manager reviewed the progress of electrification works in the section. Shri. Naveen Gulati, Divisional Railway Manager, Chennai Division, Shri.L.SudhakarRao, Chief Administrative Officer /Construction/Chennai Egmore and other Officers and staff were present.
The 9.5 km stretch between Arakkonam- Takkolam is the last leg of electrification project between Kanchipuram and Arakkonam. Ministry of Defence recently acceded to the detour alignment of tracks near the INS Rajali Naval airbase and remitted full deposit amount of Rs.54.57 crore to Railways.
The matter pertaining to setting up of Manned LC on the Arakkonam- Ocheri highways is being pursued with the State Government Officials and NOC is awaited.
On completion of this last leg of the Electrification project between Arakkonam and Kanchipuram, the circular route connecting Chennai Beach – Chengalpattu – Tirumalpur – Arakkonam – Tiruvallur – Chennai Central will be commissioned for traffic.
Later, the General Manager also inspected Arakkonam station and took stock of the passenger amenities provided at the station. He also appraised the upgradation works completed at the station during the year.
